Fixing An Oven That Doesn't Heat Properly
Before attempting any oven repair, take all precautions, and be sure your unit is disconnected from all power sources (not just turned off) and as always, if there is any oven repair question, please call us here at West Coast Chief Repair—your source for oven repair in Los Angeles and the surrounding cities.
The Symptom:
Oven does not heat properly - takes a long time to heat, and/or will not reheat after temperature drop.
Possible Cause:
Problems with improperly heating ovens are often the result of weak igniters or faulty thermostats. In most cases, these are best handled by an oven repair service.
If an oven simply won't bake at all, the problem is usually a burned-out heating element (for electric oven). Sometimes, faulty gas valves or gas safety valves are to blame—you'll need the help of an oven parts and installation service.
Repair Overview:
First, try to locate the problem.
- If the oven takes a minute or more to light after it is turned on, chances are you have a weak igniter; failure to relight and reheat after a temperature drop also indicates a weak/broken igniter. This often presents as taking much too long for items to bake.
- If your temperature is constant but not right, the thermostat is more likely to blame. You can check the thermostat sensor bulb, too.
- If the thermostat sensor bulb is loose, try tightening and see if the problem is corrected.
- If a loose bulb is not to blame, the faulty part needs replacement.
- Oven parts replacement may be simple and accessible if you are a handy person—oven replacement parts are available through oven service providers; if not, call an oven repair technician.
- The faulty igniter or thermostats will need to be removed and replaced.
- For more detailed oven parts help, consult your owners manual and/or oven repair service.
