Do You Need Appliance Repair Service? When To Call In The Appliance, Heating, And Cooling Experts
Any appliance, heater, furnace, or air conditioner owner is bound to notice some hiccups here and there throughout the life of their HVAC units and appliances. One or two performance oddities may be a fluke thing caused by a service interruption or plumbing issue; but when an issue presents itself on a regular basis, the likelihood is that it's time to call the local HVAC and appliance repair service.
Troubleshooting An Appliance Or Unit
Diagnosing a problem with a broken appliance or HVAC unit is not always easy. In fact, it can be difficult to determine whether or not a repair call is needed. However, any small appliance concern, and especially a heating or cooling concern, warrants at least a call to the local appliance and/or heating and cooling repair service for an expert opinion and some help troubleshooting.
There is some troubleshooting you can do first, though.
- Check all electrical plugs—it is common for machines to gradually unplug themselves due to vibration; also, check breakers and connections leading to the appliance; an electrical short before the appliance is a job for an electrician
- Check plumbing to and drainage from washers and other plumbing-reliant appliances and HVAC units
- Check fuel levels for gas or oil firing appliances and heating units
If none of these things appears to be the root of the problem, call an appliance repair service or heating and cooling repair service rather than an electrician or plumber; appliance and HVAC technicians are the right people to fix an appliance or heating or cooling problem; the expertise of plumbers and electricians is mainly structural.
Signs An Appliance Or HVAC Unit May Need Repair
Regular occurrences of any of the follow warrant a call to the local appliance repair service or heating and cooling repair.
- Loss of performance—some decrease in performance with age is normal, but it should not be very significant. For example, you might want to call in
…washing machine repair if clothes come out dirty
…dryer repair if clothes come out damp
…refrigerator repair if food is warm, spoils quickly, or frozen foods are soft
…oven repair if it takes a long time to light or relight
…dishwasher repair if debris or film is left on dishes
This includes taking a long time to perform adequately; for instance, it may be time for dryer service when it takes a long time to dry a load of clothes, or time for oven service or cooktop repair service if it takes a long time to cook food
- Loud noises—the clicks, bangs, grinding, squeaking, crunching, or other off noise that might signify worn parts, bearing, seal, or belt problems
- Drain problems—if standing water is left in a washing machine or dishwasher, it may be time for washing machine service or a dishwasher service call
- Temperature changes—anything running hot that shouldn't needs to be shut off and repaired before using; any unit emitting the wrong temperature of air should be checked, like
…air conditioner repair for a warm AC unit
…heater repair or furnace repair for a cold air or water heater
- Delay in control response—if it takes a minute before your disposer starts working or for your appliance to kick on after you flip the switch, give a call for garbage disposer service or washing machine repair
A simple rule of thumb is that if you are in doubt, call and talk to a qualified appliance repair technician just in case. A quick call could save your home or appliance from further serious damage.
